An interview they do on their phone, ten minutes at a time. From it, the family gets two things: a life-story film, cut from their own words and their real photos, and an AI they can still talk to. Their voice, their memories, their way of saying things.
A life-story film, about half an hour, cut from the best of their recorded answers and set to their real photos. Not a slideshow with music over it: their voice, telling it, with the pictures that go with each story. It updates as they record more.
Everything they said and wrote, hours of it beyond what the film uses, becomes an AI in their voice. Ask it what they thought when you were born, or what their first job was like, and it answers the way they would have.
We write the questions, one at a time, and they answer out loud on their phone. Two minutes or twenty. Over months, it adds up to hours of them, telling it their way.
Photos, letters, old recordings, anything they wrote. All in one place, captioned and dated so nothing gets lost in a shoebox again.
A film cut from the best of the interviews, matched to the photos. And an AI built from everything they said and wrote, so the family can still ask.
You create the story, hand them the phone with the interview link, and check in on what's been recorded. They never touch a settings page. When they're gone, this is where you go.
I built this because I'm 57 with kids who are 9 and 11. I wanted them to be able to ask me things long after I can answer. Might be a comfort. Might be a little strange. I decided it was worth making anyway.
Tom Gerencer, who made this
It is not them. It is an AI built from their own words, and it says so on every page. It doesn't clone their voice; it's text, on purpose. It can be wrong, and when it doesn't know something it says so instead of making it up. Nobody hears anything that wasn't recorded or written by them.
Sign in with your email, name the person, and you'll get a private interview link for their phone. It's free while we're getting it right. No card, no app to install.
Start a storyThe recording works on any phone or computer with a microphone, straight in the browser. Most people use their phone because that's where they are when a memory shows up.
The first answers take ten minutes. The archive keeps growing for as long as they want to add to it, and the film and the AI update as it grows. Most families let it run for a year.
Anyone with the public link can watch the film and talk to the AI. The recording and editing pages are private to the account and the person recording. Nothing is listed publicly or sold.
They're stored with the story and transcribed. You can download or delete any of them at any time. They're never used for anything but this story.
Yes, from what they left: letters, emails, writing, old recordings, videos. There won't be interview answers, but the AI can be built from everything else, and it will be honest about the gaps.
Yes. Anyone with access to the account can add a question of their own to the list, and it will come up on the phone like the others.
